After October's slew of interesting music, I knew November was going to be a step back, but I thought it might still be a bit better than this. I didn't listen to as many albums as many I should have. I got to the point of being burned out enough on decent stuff that I didn't bother with a few albums whose singles didn't lead me to believe the full album was going to be better than average (Crystal Viper, I'm looking at you). So my list this month is small. I spent more time in November listening to old favorites, which was a nice. I realized I would rather listen to "The Mob Rules" for the first time in a while than another generic power metal album from my promo pile.
November has been really good for me.
Anyway, there was one clear winner this month.

Album Of The Month: The Dark Element - Songs The Night Sings

No, this album isn't as good as the first one. Maybe that one had more of an element of surprise, but this one doesn't have those couple of magical songs that stand out. That said, it's still an excellent album that is consistently working at a very high level. Anette is great, the songs are very good, and it does exactly what I want it to.
Agree. Not as good as the debut but still a good album.

The Good:

Pretty Maids - Undress Your Madness

Very good, like the previous album was too. Between these albums, and Nordic Union, Ronnie's been on a roll. (He's also been better than that other Ronnie - hint hint) I don't really like "Firesoul Fly" all that much (especially that clunky title), but otherwise this album kicks a lot of ass. Frontiers got two good ones this month to redeem themselves, but I still say it was a mediocre year for them.
Very good but I need to listen to it more.

Avatarium - The Fire I Long For

I shouldn't do this, but I'm going to compare Avatarium to Candlemass. Jenny is a more interesting singer than Johan, and their songwriting is more varied too. This record might just be their best one yet, and it's easily better (to me) than Candlemass' lying lie of a comeback album. I'm not big on doom, but this is cool stuff.
I heard the single and moved on. No interest to hear more though she’s quite an engaging singer.

Marisa & The Moths - S/T
Cyhra - No Halos In Heaven
Deaf Rat - Ban The Light

All solid enough, but not a lot to say about them. None are anything I'll listen to much, but I enjoyed them.
Obviously I have no idea who Marisa is. I loved Cyhra and DR was decent.

Hootie & The Blowfish - Imperfect Circle

I liked Hootie back in the day. I'm not sure why they decided to make a record after fifteen years, but it's actually pretty good. It's certainly better than when Matchbox Twenty or The Wallflowers came back from long breaks, or the recent Fastball albums. This was a nice reminder of the old days. Well, my old days, at least.
No idea.

The Bad:

Edge Of Paradise - Universe

This is supposed to be 'modern', but it was a bit of a mess. Not my thing at all.
Too mixed. Overall didn’t like it.

Leah - Ancient Winter

I liked her previous album, but this one is so soft and slow it bored the hell out of me. It didn't even make good use of her voice, which should be the focal point. Lousy.
So did i like the last but only heard the single from this.

Skyblood - Skyblood

Mats Leven has always been boring, and his own album is no different. His voice is anonymous, and the songs don't give him a lot of help. Boring.
Only heard the single. Didn’t like it so didn’t try the rest

The Flower Kings - Waiting For Miracles

A whole lot of slow, soft dad-prog with waaaay too many instrumental breaks that drag on. I don't know if I actually made it through both discs of this one.
Not my thing so didn’t even try a single.

Quiet Riot - Hollywood Cowboys

The worst of the month, easily. Like last time, Quiet Riot's album sounds like shit. In addition to lousy songs, the vocals and production are abysmal. Frontiers is getting ripped off if Pretty Maids album sounds fantastic on their budget, and Quiet Riot sounds like this. A pathetic joke.
Only heard one song. Not good.
Next comes the best o' the year list! I find it a bit of a weak year, so I'm struggling to figure out what to include past the top five or six....
Meanwhile I think it’s been a great year.
