I was just reading some site and I came across a list of albums which are 30 years old this year which is a pretty big milestone for any music is it not? So I went and had a look back at some of the albums from that year which meant something to me in the time since they were released. In '89 I was into my adult pop rock bands like U2, Depeche Mode or whatever else was around and had a mere passing liking for some rock and metal but played very little of it at all until my interest in metal was piqued around the early 90s.

Anyway here are some albums I picked out from '89.

Cloven Hoof - A Sultan's Ransom - notable for the amazing vocals. The sound is very dated and poor though.

Accu§er - Who Dominates Who? - Also ran German thrash but this is enjoyable old school mayhem.

TNT - Intuition - classic AOR.

Sepultura - Beneath the Remains - classic thrash but I never full got into this album. Maybe I should try again. I started with Arise

Annihilator - Alice in Hell - Annihilator is one of those bands I got into in the new millenium but this is a classic no doubt

Black Sabbath - Headless Cross - Love the title track but I found this a bit hard going.

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness - is a death metal classic but I far preferred Blessed Are the Sick I must amdit.

Testament - Practice What You Preach - loved this despite the thin sound. Great Testasongs. Probably sounding way dated now.

King Diamond - Conspiracy - I think i first heard this in the mid 90s. I was probably quite shocked by King's laughable vocals but then I grew to appreciate it. At the Graves what a track!

Helstar - Nosferatu - always loved this from the first time I heard it probably around the 90s, but it probably sounds super dated now. Wonder if there's a remaster?

Candlemass - Tales of Creation - I remember buying this used in a shop around the early 90s. probably the first time I heard doom metal. Always enjoyed Messiah's voice.

Running Wild - Death or Glory - probably heard this for the first time around '98 or so. That was when I was going through my RW discovery period. Really great album, probably the first early RW album I appreciated.

Savatage - Gutter Ballet - My first Sava album was HOTMK and remains my fave but I also like GB though I don't recall a huge amount about it apart from Sabaton borrowing the melody from GB for gallipoli lol!

These were other notable albums released in '89 but I don't really know or recall them well enough to comment too much.

Believer - Extraction from Mortality - tech thrash - John Frank country
Dyoxen - First Among Equals - tech thrash - JF country
Hydra Vein - After the Dream - JF country.
Mekong Delta - The Principle of Doubt - JF country
Mordred Fool's Game - funk thrash was it?
Nasty Savage - Penetration Point - classic thrash
