So much for listening to less albums. I listened to even more than I did in March! And there's a couple still left that will have to go in May's pile. Madness really...

But anyhow I listened to every album here at least once and about half more than once if not more. Ratings can change but that's how I felt at the time but I've often gone back and lessened rates or increased rates so these are not set in stone as always. Overall a poorer month than March that's for sure.

Here we go. Starting with the worst and heading to the best. AOTM was very a close call.

Affäire - Less Ain 't More - 4/10
Below average glam rock. Couple of ok songs but production poor too.

Augmented - Two Worlds - 4/10
Meshuggah copy, some really heavy riffs - pass

Altar Of Oblivion - The Seven Spirits - 4.5/10
Epic metal with low baritone vocals. Could have been good but ended up poor. Music is ok but singer sounds flat as a pancake and amateurish at time.

Braveride - ...of Heroes and Innerfire - 4/10
Cheap epic melodic power. Main problem is the singer is impossible to hear. Music is sorta ok but weak.

Stramonia - The WelcKomed - 4/10
Thought it might be ok but it's not much use. Melodic goth metal is the best description I can give.

Angry Again - Ravage - 4.5/10
Foreigners(non english as mother tongue) doing thrash metal can either work amazing or sound quite lame. This is heading for the latter I'm afraid.

Seax - Fallout Rituals - 4.5/10
Speed metal music is ok. Vocals are pretty terrible. Pass

Forever Still - Breathe in Colours 5/10
Sorry Nos no likey. She can sing pretty well but these songs do zilch for me in the main but not awful either.

Fortune - II - 5/10
I want to really like this but in the end it's barely average. Production is sub par too.

Headless Beast - Phantom Fury - 5/10
Trad heavy metal from Germany. Heart in the right place. Music decent. Singer painful.

Hypoxia - Abhorrent Disease - 5/10
Average old school brutal death. Some good riffs.

New Years Day - Unbreakable - 5/10
Could have been good but ended up being mostly boring. Monster guitar sound though.

Primal Sinner - Dying Like the Sun in the West 5/10
Trad metal from SA somewhere. It's ok musically but utterly forgettable song wise.

Smoulder - Times of Obscene Evil and Wild Daring - 5/10
Doesn't work out for me. Trad doom heavy metal with female vocals. It's ok but not something I'll listen to more than once.

Vainglory - Manifesting Destiny - 5/10
Average heavy metal with a screaming female gargler.

Critic - Eveil De L'Esprit (EP) 5.5/10
Brutal speed death metal with some tech aspects. Just didn't excite overall but I listened all the way no problem.

Mechanical God Creation - The New Chapter - 5.5/10
Heavy and brutal death metal with mechanical edge as the band's name suggests. Could be listenable but it never really goes anywhere much worth going to.

Silverheart - Destination 5.5/10
Argentinian power metal. First sample led me to believe I was gonna enjoy this past a 7/10 but alas it fails in the end. The singer being the band's major downfall. Just not good enough.

Corrosive - Nourished By Blood 6/10
Super heavy old school grinding death metal. I like it a bit but it's not catchy enough in the riff dept but very heavy and worth a listen for old school death fans who like it super heavy.

Damaged Reich - Death Becomes Us All - 6/10
Heart in the right place average UK thrash metal.

Dawn of Demise - Into the Depths of Veracity - 6/10
Tight as hell brutal death with great drumming, but very one dimensional.

Fractal Universe - Rhizomes of Insanity - 6/10
I want to like this but it's not quite doing it for me. It's tech death with meandering parts and great parts.

Jim Peterik & World Stage - Winds Of Change 6/10
Pleasant show tunes with AOR feel but poor production. Lots of different voices. About 3-4 great songs like the ones with Toby Hitchcock and a few others. Forgettable in the end.

Lonerider - Attitude - 6/10
Pleasant bluesy AOR. Great vocals from Overland as always. Overall not my thing.

Orion Child - Continuum Fracture - 6/10
It's decent but there are elements which dampen my enthusiasm.

Allegaeon - Apoptosis - 6.5/10
I want to really like this but it never fully ignites any passion in me. It is however solid semi tech death.

Emerge - A New Horizon 6.5/10
Very heavy and groovy modern rock band let down by average singing. Music is nice and crunchy and songs are pretty decent. Singer annoys me with his boring delivery but pretty ok overall.

Enforcer - Zenith - 6.5/10
It has its great moments but this effort is slightly below par. I expected more from this band but they wanted branch out a bit and not always successfully. The production is also average strangely. Might get up to 7/10 with more plays.

Killery - Ready for the Apocalypse 6.5/10
Decent groovy thrash metal with average death vocals slightly spoiling the broth.

Manowar - The Final Battle I (EP) 6.5/10
Abysmal production. Eric's voice is shot. Still one beautiful ballad and one typical Manowar hymn and a cringy battle dirge.

Mosh-Pit Justice - Fighting The Poison - 6.5/10
If Iced Earth were more like Metallica. Unfortunately the singer whilst ok lets this down in the end and drops it out of the 7 and upwards party. It's ok for riff fanciers though.

A.C.T - Rebirth EP - 7/10
Very decent little ep. Melodic and quirky prog rock as only these Swedes know how. Soft and fuzzy sound. Lush instruments.

Hardline - Life - 7/10
Slightly disappointed. Wanted to like this way more. It is good no doubt but I just needed and wanted more.

Ossian - A Reményhozó - 7/10
Hungary's biggest heavy metal band. Very solid effort by these vets of the Hungarian metal scene. It has many things to enjoy but has a few dodge moments too. But decent heavy metal lads, pump your fists!

The Flaying - Angry, Undead - 7/10
Clinical and tight death metal. Nice riffing. Solid death but a little one dimensional since most songs sound the same.

Triple Kill - Age of Rebellion - 7/10
Unknown band playing power metal with modern edge. Great riffs and production and catchy songs here and there. Potential is there.

Paragon - Controlled Demolition - 7/10
Only time for a quick listen and it's the usual from Paragon. Solid heavy power metal with their own character. Can improve with more plays.

Astral Doors - Worship or Die - 7.5/10
It's Astral Doors. No surprises offered. The songs are mostly enjoyable, a couple of really great ones mainly towards the end. If you're tired of their style this won't help you much. If you like the band in general you'll like this too but it's not a world beater that's for sure.

Brainblast - Primal Impulse ep - 7.5/10
Nice and warm tech death. Cool sounds.

Age Of Artemis - Monomyth 7.5/10
Very good melodic power from Brazil. Skilful musicians to the level of bands like Angra etc. Good music and decent vocalist. I'm happy.

Animal Drive - Back to The Roots EP 7.5/10
I shouldn't be rating a covers EP at all really but damn this is good. Singer Dino is the ace in the pack but the music is monstrous. These songs come to life under Animal Drive I tell ya!

Lance King - ReProgram 7.5/10
Believe it or not I was thinking this would get an 8 or 8.5 but I had to tone it down a little as the production is slightly flat. It is good though. Melodic and classy prog metal with interesting lyrics for the cynical intellectuals out there hehe!

N.EX.U.S - st - 7.5/10
Very pleasant and easy on the ear this album from Italian these prog metallers. Singer is accented here and there but he actually makes the album for me. I love his style and tone.

Qantice - The Anastoria - 7.5/10
Always interesting and fairly unique symphonic power metal. Not perfect but an interesting listen for sure with a lot of cool melodies.

Sister Shotgun - Fragments - 7.5/10
Solid debut effort. Fantastic riffs and production. Decent female singer who sometimes gets on my nerves. Solid songs but they need working on to make them better. Great start anyway.

Shrapnel - Decade Of Decimation ep - 7.5/10
Again just a 4 tracker but this UK thrash band is blisteringly fast. I saw them live a few weeks ago and in that setting it turns to noise and loses some impact but this 4 tracker is good shit for headbangers everywhere.

Yours Truly - Afterglow - 7.5/10
That chick is just adorable. The band's music is crisp and fantastically produced. Guitars have some bite to them now. Only a 5 tracker with one old track. But they have a knack for memorable melodies even if the lyrics are just totally unrelateable.

Accursed Spawn - The Virulent Host 8/10
Very solid death metal. Speedy and riffy. Enjoyable for death metal fans.

Aggravator - st - 8/10
6 track ep of superb old school death/thrash. The music is mostly relentless thrash whilst the singer hisses and rasps like an angry cobra. Killer riffs in this band.

Equipoise - Demiurgus - 8/10
Hyper technical melodic and super clean death metal with hyper audible fretless bass. Can sound messy at times with layer upon layer but still sounds pretty amazing. "Less is more" doesn't apply to these guys. More is More!

Exxocet - Mighty Jungle - 8/10
This is my fun disk of the month. Glammy, super cool heavy metal/rock. Catchy as a bad rash this shit. I still think they needed an extra "x" in their name though lol!

Frozen Crown - Crowned in Frost - 8/10
Released at the back end of March but I never got to hear it but it was worth the wait. Very talented band. Nice melodic power and a few growlies but less than before. Love the chick singer, she's super cool. The guitars rip too.

Orpheus Omega - Wear Your Sins - 8/10
Dunno too much about these melodeath guys but I know I like this album. Very nicely produced melodeath. Catchy stuff.

Steel Prophet - The God Machine - 8/10
My hopes were initially low after the first single however having heard the whole thing I'm pretty impressed with this comeback. RD Liapakis has breathed new life into this band. The songs are mostly very solid with a few crackers. Nice comeback lads!

VLTIMAS - Something Wicked Marches In - 8/10
Mr Vincent is back with some rapid fire death metal with a few blackish bits but not many. The music is very decent and flows well but the best thing about this is the characterful vocals of Evil D himself. First of all you can understand every word which is good in itself but the best thing is the way he pronounces some words to make it sound more sort of ghoulish and
mischievous. I like the hyperspeed drumming too fake or not. Much better than MA's last album which disappointed me greatly.

Warchest - Sentenced Since Conception - 8/10
Full rage thrash with huge crunching riffs. Pretty horrible vocals which sound like a mutt barking from down a deep well. But the music is a real ripper mate!

Anthem - Nucleus - 8.5/10
Probably one of the best albums every released from a Japanese band. I still love Galneryus more but this Anthem album is up there. Pretty heavy, always very melodic and fantastically produced. Melodic metal fans the world over will be happy.

Axenstar - End of All Hope - 8.5/10
The Swedes are back with a great effort. Great music, nice melodic vocals and cool songs. Great up tempo drumming too. Very pleased with this.

De Lirium's Order - Singularity - 8.5/10
Superb tech death comeback. Crystal clear riffing, choppy stop start angles and many peculiar ideas, clean vocals, all sorts. Very interesting listen. Even accordion! I'll say that again..accordion in death metal! Fuck yeah!

Exumer - Hostile Defiance - 8.5/10
Super underrated German thrash stalwarts. They've returned with a great slab of speeding thrash metal. Riffs to bang to till your head falls off. Great vocals!

Grand Magus - Wolf God - 8.5/10
Out Manowaring Manowar! GM didn't change anything. If you can't stand the molten metal get outta the molten metal factory!

Leverage - Determinus - 8.5/10
More epic melodic metal from the Finns. Great follow up to the promising ep. Losing Pekka might have been an issue but this band had other ideas. So many cool bits happen in these songs. They really like to push themselves musically and to include dramatic sections or parts you wouldn't normally associate with a straight melodic metal band. Great effort lads!

West of Hell - Blood of the Infidel - 8.5/10
The kiwis are back! THeir last album was hard as nails. This album is choc full of savage techy power metal riffs whilst the singer wails and chews iron and spits it out like there's no tomorrow. Solid as all hell. Very mean and angry!

Silver Bullet - Mooncult - 8.75/10
Heavy power metal goodness. Good captivating stuff this... solid as hell vocals, nice choirs and very dramatic too. Just about takes the accolades for April though it was close with a few albums. However well done Silver Bullet. You may be unknowns but you can hold your head up high lads..
