George Lynch sounds like any other 80s guitar player to me.
God damn...oh, wow.
Dokken was long forgotten by the time I was paying attention. I did listen to both of the albums he and Sweet made recently, as well as that KXM thing, and I don't recall a single guitar part I thought was amazing. He's a good player, but he doesn't stand out to me over most of the others. Maybe it's one of those 'you had to be there' things.
Nah, it's one of those "you have to be a guitarist yourself" thing. You don't have to be a musician to appreciate Lynch, but it doesn't hurt. He brought a lot to the game. Safe to say he added to the rule book. He went haywire on EVH pinch harmonics, the dives, and the bends: master of squeal - Zakk Wylde simply wouldn't be here. I don't know anything he's been doing now; I walked away after 94 s/t reunion. I've seen him live fairly recently a few times and his sound and playing are still smoking hot. He's on fire on Tooth and Nail through Back for the Attack, and does a great job on Hear'N'Aid too. I hate Don Dokken, but love George Lynch, he's a massive influence.
