I enjoyed this month a lot. Plenty of good stuff in various styles of music that I enjoy. Plus a few from 2016 thanks to that dodgy guy JF and his 2016 post haha!

Stuff I like:

Walpyrgus - Walpyrgus Nights
Thanks to Guillaume and others for finally forcing this down my throat. Very good melodic classic trad metal. Great vox too.

Accept - The Rise of Chaos
I like it. It's fun heavy metal. Simple enough really.

Kryptonite - st
Great melodic rock project. very enjoyable music and catchy songs.

Bestial Invasion - Trilogy - Prisoners Of Miserable Fate (2016) (EP)
JF tip. Only 4 tracks but very listenable thrash.

Eagleheart - Reverse
Yeah quality Czech power metal - not often you'll be saying that! Great quality production and acceptable vocals from the guy. Amazing sonics as I said.

Fire Strike - Slaves of Fate
Female fronted Maiden style trad metal. Fun if throwaway.

Foredoomed - Ordeal
I have mostly given up on melodeath but this I love. Melodeath at its best for modern times IMO.

Gracepoint - Echoes
JF to the rescue. Very good melodic prog without being so proggy that would bore me. Great vocals too.

Skyfire - Liberation in Death
One of my fave ever melodeath bands returns with an appetiser. Only 4 tracks but the quality is there for all to see. Lovely keys as always in this band.

Spectrum Of Delusion - Esoteric Entity
Tech death whirlathon. Vokills a bit dodge but OK. Music is warm, fluid and melodic with twangy and clean bass.

Infernal Outcry - EP - Mass Extinction Requiem I 2016
JF's hold on me continues. Great riffs!

Cats In Space - Scarecrow
Are you a fan of 70s lush harmonics? Then you need this album. Some fantastic songs and glorious harmonies. Just like pouring sugar down your earholes!

Nervecell - Past, Present..Torture
Savage, heavy death. Superb production and outstanding death vokills. Kinda death metal I love!

Beneath - Ephemeris
Strangely it's been a great month for death fuckin' metal. Beneath adding to that tally with a catchy slab of battery.

Inanimate Existence - Underneath A Melting Sky
As I was saying death metal ruled and this was probably the best of the lot. Just a fantastic and amazing tech death listen. Epic fret wizardry!

Jack Starr’s Burning Starr - Stand Your Ground
Jack returns once in a blue moon with an album of true cult heavy metal. This album is an enjoyable listen held together superbly by vocals from Todd Michael Hall if I'm not wrong. Some triumphant melodies but production is a bit raw or flat by today's standards.

Serious Black - Magic
Melodies not as immediate as Mirrorworld but still amazing in their own right. I will spend hours and hours and become fixated with this. I know I already love it anyway. One thing I do know is that the production is actually way heavier and better than the last album. Plus the album starts to reveal more and more of its charms the more you listen. Still album of the month!

Sumerlands - st
Melodic and catchy metal from eons ago. Yeah last year some time! Still very cool and especially the great tone of the singer. JF saves the day again for us comatose metalheads!

Maligner - Demon EP
Enjoyable, heavy death/thrash ep from last year again. JF...you get the picture!

Prospekt - The Illuminated Sky
I almost didn't bother with this but curiosity got the better of me and I gave it a bash. Lo and behold it's bloody great. The music is absolutely wondrous and they've thrown everything but the kitchen sink at it. The singer can get a bit drowned out or overwhelmed at times and it's hard to actually hear him and a more powerful voice would've been better but he's ok for a nondescript prog metal singer whilst the music continues to amaze.

Wraith - Revelation
80s trad throwback. Heavy riffs and melodic vocals. Enjoyable but not amazing but good enough to be included.

Undecided:`

Pentakill - II- Grasp of the Undying
Heavy hitting music with Jorn singing. Very heavy and pretty melodic but definitely should have some fans in metal community.

The Nights - st
Melodic rock. Super sound but singer below my required standard. Songs OK.

Anubis Gate - Covered in Black
Good stuff but I doubt I will get much in the way of repeat play action out of this but the class is there for all to see and hear.

Dendera - Part One - Blood Red Sky (EP)
Little EP from my English homies. Very heavy but perhaps not as memorable as I was hoping.

Degreed - st
Solid hard hitting modern melodic rock. Not sure about some of the songs but it's mostly pretty OK.

The Haunted - Strength in Numbers
A strong release especially the heavy and lean production. Songs can be boring but some good ripping tunes as well. Just a mixed bag which I'm not sure is enough to please this old bastard.

Leprous - Malina
I don't like this band but I like this album somehow. The vocalist is completely outstanding. The music on its own is not something amazing to me but with the added vocal wow factor it's highly listenable. I just don't know if I will give this enough time.

Galderia - Return of the Cosmic Men
I may have been hasty in my dismissal of this. It's actually rather enjoyable happy power. Very OTT, just the way I like it really. The singer when singing on his own is average but the choirs are epic and chest beating. I'll need a few more plays if I ever get round to it!

Dismissed on full listen:
Taz Taylor Band - Pressure and Time
Blues rock.

Exit Eden - Rhapsodies In Black
Some verty good covers and some that don't work at all.

Warbeast - Enter The Arena
Raw punky thrash ala Gwar.

Attic - Sanctimonious
Far too grim and black sounding King Diamond copy. Amazing vocals though!

Claymorean - Sounds from a Dying World
Average true metal but with nice riffs and a decent chick singer.

Crimfall - Amain
Cinematic, epic, viking metal. Songs have amazing passages but overall not memorable enough.

Akercocke - Renaissance In Extremis
Very weird and interesting listen but I will never listen to this again no doubt.

Portrait - Burn the World
Another KD worship band to go with Attic. Better produced but again the song writing does very little for me.

Daydream XI - The Circus Of The Tattered And Torn
Decent but won't wow me in the long run. Not memorable enough.
