The 4 albums from 1998 to 2004 (Vain Glory Opera, Theater Of Salvation, Mandrake, Hellfire Club) were huge for me, as was getting the chance to see them live, and those albums remain genre favorites for me.
I'm the opposite. Other than "Kingdom Of Salvation", which is utter crap, I like the earlier Edguy stuff, but I rarely find myself listening to any of it these days. Power metal by rote got really old really fast. I completely understand why people don't like the later Edguy stuff, but to me it's way more interesting to hear Tobi going a bit off the rails than to write another "Babylon" for the hundredth time. As long as he stays short of 'alien drum bunny', I'm good.
Well I don't know what the fuck you hear when you listen to Magica
I hear one of those concept albums that gets so bogged down in the story, they forgot to write good songs. It's the most tuneless album of Dio's entire career, and to me it's proof that a good number of people are so impressed by a musician trying to write a story that they'll think anything 'conceptual' is genius.
