I much prefer a recording to sound like it will sound like it sounded in the garage or rehersal room and what it would sound like live...

I tend to agree with that, especially when it comes to effects. I have grown increasingly intolerant of productions that put reverb, echo, delay, and the like on the sound. Especially the vocals.

I want to hear the band and the music, not the tricks the producer knows.
